Dear Single Payer Supporter:

We think you'll agree the Illinois Single payer movement needs to do three things now:
education, education, and more education!

That's why ISPC is launching an effort to have as many Illinois residents as possible view The Health Care Movie.  We think this movie can do more to bring people to our cause than any other activity we can undertake, given limited means.

Produced by Canadian/American couple Laurie Simons and Terry Sterrenberg, The Healthcare Movie reveals the personal and emotional impact on Canadians who now have access to universal health care because of the heroism of people who took a stand nearly 50 years ago. It also reveals the continuing struggle in the United States between the fear of government intervention and the right to quality health care for all people.

In my crusade to educate our local public about the health care situation, I haven't found a better vehicle than this movie.
    ...Dwight Michael, M.D.,
          Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Want to help?  Here's how:
1)  Host a private or public screening of the Health Care Movie in your home, at your church, group or club, or in any public venue you think might work.  We'll provide a copy of the movie and guidance for showing it.  We'll also do our best to provide a speaker to lead discussion following the movie.  It's fun, educational and relatively easy.

2)  Help the Health Care Movie committee with planning and promotional efforts.

If you can help with this effort in any way, please contact:  Bill Bianchi at: billbispc@gmail.com

Regards:

Tell Congress: Amend "Anti-Protest Bill" to Ensure First Amendment Protections

http://act.watchdog.net/petitions/963

It amazes me that there is even a petition like this circulating in America. This just blows my mind.

Have we become total slaves to the "anti-terrorism" thing, or what?

This country was in no way this chicken-shit when I was growing up.

Privacy and Security Fanatic: Facebook Terrorism? Ex-Marine arrested, 9-11 conspiracy posts 'terrorist in nature'

http://m.networkworld.com/community/blog/facebook-terrorism-marine-arrested-9-11-conspiracy-posts-terrorist-nature?source=NWWNLE_nlt_daily_am_2012-08-20

I find the above story troubling on several levels.

1.) Was the guy speaking about actual physical actions, or was he speaking metaphorically?

2) The government arresting someone for what they say, rather than what they do: He spoke about a revolution and severing heads. I've heard a bazillion people talk about "cutting heads" when people get fired or indicted. Did the guy start stock-piling large amounts of food, weapons, ammo, or illegal materials like bomb ingredients, or just run his mouth off on Facebook?

I guess this is the most of it. I think it's right to flag speech like that and watch for a pattern of activities that would indicate intent to carry out such actions. We don't know at this point if that was the case here, the story doesn't give us enough information.

It's an interesting era we live in. Neither individuals, nor groups, nor e en governments can keep things hidden for long. I think it's going to take a long time for that to translate well in a society like ours, but I also think that in the long run, the transparency will be a good thing.

Still, I hope that it comes clear whether tis veteran was actually dangerous, or just speaking his mind, and I fervently hope that the authorities clear his name if it was the latter, with full compensation for time lost. After all, getting it wrong should be as expensive a mistake for a government agency as it is for an individual, in terms of monetary compensation.

They should have to pay to fully publicize his innocence, and compensate him for any lost wages or property in-full if he's not carried out any such actions and is only expressing opinion. He should be in a place where he can do no physical harm if he was amassing the means to conduct terrorist acts.

It's a razor-thin line being walked here, steel shoes and a perfect sense of balance are required.

The Failure Of American Artistic Spirit At The State Level

I'm reading this article at Truthout, and nodding my head in sad agreement.

We've lost much funding for the arts, and have become a society of starkness, awash in a time of darkness and meanness of spirit that I can't ever remember existing before. It's like the world's paladin has lost its faith.

It is up to the public to put the promoters of bleakness from the public stage, to choose leadership that reaches for color and craft and form, and drives the bleakness from our existence.

This is the great failing of the tenement tracts and ghettos of the 1960's - a concentration of the spirit of poorness in such magnitude that the oppression of the soul at its heart was inescapable, a well of depression as deep as any black hole at the center of a galaxy, where not even light can escape.

The entire country is being turned into a desperate wasteland of the heart, where people struggle for the least enjoyments, and beauty and leisure are seen as selfish when they really are what feeds the soul.

The country is being fought over by ghouls that have so little heart, they infect everyone else in the land to varying degrees. The only thing left is for those who still have a sense of beauty to cast off the shackles of dourness, and run across the land painting it with love and joy, before the life is squeezed from it like a dessicated rotten fruit in a dead desert.

I wish it would rain life and love, but first we have to seed the clouds.
