Victory! EFF keeps the government out of your inbox.

Electronic Frontier Foundation

Dear Daniel,

Victory over cyber spying!

Yesterday the US Cybersecurity Act of 2012 — a bill that would have given companies new rights to monitor our private communications and pass that data to the government — met defeat.

EFF built a coalition of advocacy groups from all sides of the political spectrum including Fight for the Future, Free Press, Liberty Coalition, Mozilla, Techdirt and many more. Together, we mobilized hundreds of thousands of netroots supporters, and Congress heard us loud and clear. Today we won.

Without community leaders like EFF and the support of every EFF member, we could never have beaten back SOPA, HR 1981, or the Cybersecurity Act. Thank you for making this possible. But this isn't the end of the fight.

We defeated this bill, but they'll be back – either this fall or next year – and with your help we'll be ready for them.

If you believe in the work we're doing to safeguard liberty in the digital age, please support the cause and donate today.  If you're not a 2012 member yet, join EFF now to help us protect users, innovation, and civil liberties today and forevermore.  Thank you to all of our members and Action Alert participants for your dedication to Internet freedom.

Fighting for your digital rights,

Rainey Reitman
Activism Team
