Dear Daniel,

This is a reminder about the hearing in Chicago this Wednesday on the state of voting in Illinois. In case you missed the original email, the information is below and flyers in English and Spanish are available to download. We look forward to seeing you there and even if you can't make it, please forward to your friends and family!

As a follow-up to the Illinois Election Protection 2012 program, the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law and the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law are hosting a hearing on June 12 in Chicago to gather information about problems and successes with all aspects of voting in the state– from registration to early voting to election day.  The hearing is free and open to the public; anyone who is interested may attend and/or speak.  We expect to hear from voters, community leaders, advocates, and election officials.

Testimony at the hearing will be used by Election Protection in our ongoing efforts to protect the right to vote for all eligible citizens in Illinois and other states, and to improve the Election Protection program.

There will be two ways that interested persons can submit testimony.

  • Panels – There will be several formal panels of witnesses representing voting rights organizations, community leaders, election officials, and other stakeholders. The witnesses are encouraged to submit written testimony in advance of the hearing. A panel of Election Protection representatives and civil rights leaders will receive the testimony and may ask follow up questions. In order to participate on one of the panels, an RSVP is required (RSVP here)
  • Informal testimony by the public – There will be several opportunities throughout the event when voters can speak about their experiences. In order to speak during the "open mic" sessions, an RSVP is encouraged, but not required (RSVP here).
The hearing will be video-taped and transcribed. For any voter who wishes to offer testimony in Spanish, an interpretor will be availabe from 4:00-7:00 PM.

When:  June 12, 2013, 4pm to 8pm
Where:  DePaul University College of Law (Room 341), 25 East Jackson Blvd, Chicago, IL 60604

If you plan to attend, an RSVP is appreciated but not required.

For more information, please contact Eileen O'Connor at eoconnor@lawyerscommittee.org or Marissa Liebling at mliebling@clccrul.org.
