Dear Daniel, This is big: the Illinois Senate really wants to hear from citizens like you about your food!
On June 20, over 200 supporters of genetically engineered (GE) food labeling gathered in Normal, IL, for the first of three public debates on the bill that would make GE labeling the law. We have two more chances to make our case to them in person, but whether you can make the meetings or not, your lawmaker needs to hear from you right away. Help educate your Illinois lawmakers about GE food before Monsanto does! Many of our legislators are getting an earful from Monsanto, Kraft, Cargill and other biotech companies. Even the Farm Bureau is getting pressure from the biotech industry. Unless they hear from lots of concerned consumers like you, we can kiss our right-to-know goodbye. Send a quick email telling your Illinois lawmakers to co-sponsor legislation to label GE foods! Potentially unsafe, untested GE foods have been on supermarket shelves for over a decade, but they are not required to be labeled! The biotech industry is fighting hard to keep consumers and legislators in the dark. Tell your legislator it's time to wake up and smell the GMOs! Illinoisans demand their right to know. On August 7, there will be a hearing in Carbondale, and on September 17, there will be a hearing in Chicago. We will keep you updated with the details of these events, but IL legislators need to hear from us RIGHT NOW. Write to your lawmakers and tell them to stand up for our rights by co-sponsoring the bill to make GE labeling the law! Take action now, and if there's a hearing in your area, I'll send you an invitation when it gets closer!
