Hi,
Earlier this year, you and more than 100,000 other CREDO activists signed my petition urging Attorney General Eric Holder to intervene in Ohio Republicans' attempts to make it harder for local residents to vote. After we delivered the petition, the Department of Justice did just that by backing the NAACP's legal challenge to the reduction of early voting days and the elimination of "golden week," when voters are typically able to register and cast a ballot at the same time.
Just yesterday, this work came to fruition when a federal judge ruled in favor of the NAACP and DOJ by blocking Republicans' latest attempt to make it harder to vote. Your ac tivism helped make this possible by bringing national attention to the case and putting pressure on Attorney General Holder to intervene.
If you'd like to know more, here are a few resources on the case:
- Detailed MSNBC article that puts the case in context: http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/judge-blocks-early-voting-cuts-ohio
- Anlaysis of the legal implications of this decision: http://electionlawblog.org/?p=64964
- The federal judge's full ruling (PDF): http://electionlawblog.org/wp-content/uploads/072_order_granting_pi.pdf
Thanks so much for being part of the fight to protect and expand voting rights.
