This is a really difficult and complex issue. We could use a North American Free Living Agreement if we're going to have NAFTA and people here luring un-documented immigrants and their minor children so they can bypass labor standards and wage laws.
That would require universal documentation standards for citizens across the region, universal bi-lingual education standards, (meaning we ALL learn both languages, which is a good idea anyway by itself) universal police and military cooperation with common training standards and joint exercises. Regional building codes across the entire zone. That also means regional labor unions and standardized labor and wage laws.
We could be a lot better neighbors, all of us, in every country in North America, and lift each other up...or continue the BS mess we have now.
I stopped looking down on people for the circumstances they were born into long ago, if I ever did. We can do a hell of a lot better than we do.
