April 30, 2014 Mr. Daniel Stafford 40 N. Tower Road #9N Oak Brook, IL 60523-1120 Dear Mr. Stafford: Thank you for contacting me regarding the need to increase the federal minimum wage. I appreciate hearing from you. I am a cosponsor of legislation (S. 460) that would increase the federal minimum wage. The current wage is $7.25 an hour. This legislation would gradually increase it to $10.10 an hour, after which there would be automatic annual increases tied to changes in the cost of living. S. 460 would raise the minimum wage for tipped workers to 70 percent of the regular minimum wage. That would be the first time in 20 years the tipped wage has been raised. S. 460 has been referred to the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. Thank you again for sharing your views on this important issue with me. Please feel free to keep in touch. Sincerely, Richard J. Durbin United States Senator RJD/es |
