Daniel, John Boehner is digging in, saying yesterday that he would not bring a clean funding bill up for a vote and would instead continue the government shutdown indefinitely. But House Democrats have a way to cut Boehner out of the process and force a vote on a clean funding bill. They just need 17 Republicans to join them for it to work. Tell House Republicans: Sign the discharge petition and end this shutdown now. A discharge petition is a little-used procedural maneuver that House Democrats are hoping to use to end this shutdown. To work, a simple majority of representatives—that's just 217 because of vacancies in the House today—need to sign the petition. With 200 Democrats, we'd need 17 Republicans to come on board. So far, 21 Republicans have said publicly that they support a clean funding bill. Now, they need to act. Join Daily Kos and Democracy for America to tell House Republicans to end this shutdown. Keep fighting, Michael Langenmayr Campaign Director, Daily Kos P.S. This shutdown crisis was manufactured by Republicans to force their right-wing agenda on Americans even after losing the 2012 elections, but we're not going to let them. Can you chip in $3 right now to help fuel our campaign and breaking news coverage in the days ahead? |
