We would like to thank our very hard-working candidates for township offices, and all of you who supported them with your time and donations.

There is no way to sugar-coat the results: We failed. Our vote totals across the board were less than those we got four years ago. The bulk of our voters did not turn out, because we were not able to connect with enough of them and convince them of why these elections matter.

We may have lost, but we aren't going anywhere. We will continue to work at building our organization, at connecting with our communities, at expanding on our recent victories in state and federal elections, and at shining a light on the activities of our township government. We won't stop until the Republican machine is broken, and hope you won't either.

There is some good news from our area as well as surrounding communities. Our own state central committeeman and former township chair, Bob Wagner, got more votes than any other candidate in the highly contested race for Villa Park Village Trustee, beating out some very well-financed opponents. Our endorsed candidate for VP Village President, Deborah Bullwinkel, won by a stunning margin of over three to one. In the village of Downers Grove, Democrat Greg Hose was elected as a commissioner. In Wayne Township, Martin McManamon will be the new highway commissioner, the first Democrat in decades to be elected to township office in DuPage. Democrat Patricia Johnson won a seat on the Carol Stream library board, and Democrat Dave Barry won a similar victory in Bartlett. Last but not least, Robin Kelly easily won election to the US Congress on an unapologetically liberal platform that rejected the NRA and opposed cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

Again, thanks to our township candidates: Ahmed Sayyed, Joe Vosicky, Mark Pitchford, Cathy Sewell, Diane Blair Sherlock, Carol Davis.

This Saturday: Join Sierra Club members and U.S. Representative Mike Quigley for a morning of restoring the woodlands at historic Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve.  Led by Stewards Marlene Rosecrans and Laurie Meyers, we will work on removing invasive honeysuckle and buckthorn, and whatever other projects are needed.

Representative Quigley, who lived in DuPage County for a number of years, now has eastern portions of DuPage County in his district. An avid environmental advocate, he wants to meet and work with some Sierra Club members and DuPage County residents while helping our Forest Preserve. He will join the work around 10:30.

Meet at 9 A.M. at the north end of the main parking lot, off of Spring Road, in Fullersburg Woods. Equipment will be provided. Please dress for the weather and bring work gloves.  The FPD requires that volunteer forms be filled out prior to the event, and we will provide them to those who respond.

Please reply to this email if you're coming. For more information:  Tom Richardson,  rtom.richardson@gmail.com , 630-272-4351.
