Move to Amend
Daniel,

This week presents an awesome opportunity for you to take action to get money out of politics.

On Nov. 6, 2012, 1.1 million Illinois voters had various resolutions to enable the regulation of money in politics on their ballot and 73% voted YES.

Now we want to give all Illinois voters a chance to voice their opinion on restoring the people's rights and the integrity of our elections.

12 States have passed resolutions that address corporate constitutional rights.  We can make Illinois state number 13 by passing Senate Joint Resolution SJR0027, which was recently introduced into the Illinois General Assembly co-sponsored by Senators Heather A. Steans, Karen McConnaughay, Pamela J. Althoff, Don Harmon, Kwame Raoul and Daniel Biss.

This resolution was developed by a coalition of Illinois members of Move to Amend, Common Cause, Public Citizen, PIRG, MoveOn, and several other groups.

The goal of the Illinois resolution is to end corporate and other special interest rule and get corporate and other special interest money out of OUR elections by calling on Congress to amend the U.S. Constitution to make clear that the rights of persons protected by the Constitution are the rights of natural persons and not those of corporations or other artificial entities, and that money can facilitate speech but its use is not speech within the meaning of the First Amendment, and can be regulated.

Now is the time to Lobby Your Illinois State Senator and Representative!

We must act now to demand that Illinois lawmakers represent us, not corporate and other special interests.  Illinois House and Senate members are in their home districts the first week of April.  This is an ideal time to lobby them while they are in their home offices, easily reachable and available.

Here is how to do it.

Not sure how to lobby?  We have guides for you on the Illinois Move to Amend web site located here that will show you how to call, write or make an appointment and meet with your lawmaker

If you are you interested in joining us to attend a meeting with your State Senator or Representative during the Week of April 1st or would like help with lobbying please contact:
