A Message From Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth | | |
| Dear Neighbors, I am writing to you this week to talk about the mportance of preserving Social Security and Medicare. Since Social Security and Medicare were signed into law, millions of Americans have relied on these crucial programs which allow them to live their lives with dignity. Millions more who paid into the system are counting on Medicare to one day provide them with quality health care and Social Security to provide them with retirement income. This historic commitment and pledge from our country is one of our greatest achievements. Seniors like my mother and those living with disabilities all understand the essential role Medicare and Social Security play in the lives of so many Americans. Unfortunately, over the last two years, some in Congress have proposed ending the guaranteed benefit of Medicare and cutting Social Security to reduce our deficit. These same members of Congress are the ones who refer to Social Security and Medicare as entitlements. But that's simply not accurate. These are programs that Americans have paid into and earned. You sent me to Washington to protect what you have earned and I intend on keeping that promise. I know that we can honor our commitments to Seniors and those throughout the country while reducing the federal deficit at the same time It just requires compromise and a willingness to work together. This Friday, I am hosting a Teletown Hall on the topic of Social Security and Medicare so that I can take questions from my neighbors and hear your thoughts on these important issues. If you would like to join our call, please dial 1-888-409-5380 at 2:30 PM CST this Friday. Sincerely, Congresswoman Duckworth Sincerely, Tammy Duckworth Member of Congress | Office Locations | Washington, D.C. 104 Cannon HOB Washington, D.C. 20515 Tel: (202) 225-3711 | Schaumburg 1701 E.
