49 Chicago CEOs give uplifting news about the economy. Is this email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser. President Obama recently stated that the private sector is doing O.K., and it appears that many Chicago-area executives agree. A year ago The Chicago Tribune began following 49 Chicago-area executives from the private and not-for-profit sectors and just this week provided an update in an article called "Growth & Change: A Year of Insights"  (Chicago Tribune; June 18, 2012).  Overall, the comments by these executives provided a sharp contrast to Republican pronouncements about the state of the economy.  Out of the 49 executives, the only two who cited regulations as a concern were representatives of the two industries largely responsible for the 2007 economic collapse.  Yet despite the criticism, they still experienced record profits. This is the story of our economy; corporations continue to report record profits, pushing three years in a row.  Still, what we will continue to hear from our Republican friends is that the situation is dire, and that government is stifling business.  We fully expect to see Representative Hultgren to join in singing this tune.  While unemployment remains unacceptably high, the Republicans have decided that a Republican Congress and White House are more important than your ability to provide for your family, and are creating an environment of volatility and uncertainty. Why should we reward hostage takers?  We need to put people first in Washington and that is my goal.  However, we can't do this without your help.  Please consider making a contribution via  to keep this movement going.
