PETITION: Illinois political leaders: Stop the cuts! Fix the budget crisis with progressive economic reform instead!

Dear Daniel,

PDA-Illinois has joined with other Illinois progressive groups*, to oppose the drastic austerity cuts to the state's safety net recently implemented by Illinois' political leaders.

In place of futile and cruel austerity, we advocate progressive economic action including: new revenue, jobs and Medicare for All.

Austerity is wrong. Cuts don't produce jobs or prosperity; they only drain money from our local economies, increasing unemployment and decreasing consumption. The state, in turn, collects less in taxes, and falling revenues trigger more calls for budget cuts. The politicians are putting us in a downward economic spiral.

Progressive reform is a far better solution. We want to present our legislative leaders with thousands of signatures, and we could really use your help.
