The National Campaign to End Corporate Personhood and Demand Real Democracy! Move to Amend

Daniel,

On July 17, the Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution will hold a hearing to examine pending constitutional proposals in the Senate, followed by a panel of experts and advocates. Move To Amend's Executive Committee has been in contact with Chairman Senator Dick Durbin to request that we be allowed to participate. No invitation has been issued…yet.

Our collective knowledge and grassroots work on democracy issues for the past decade have helped to shape public opinion against corporate personhood and money as speech. We believe this gives us a unique perspective, which should be heard.

➤➤ We are mobilizing to request an invitation from the sub-committee, and we need your help!

Because your senator is a member of the sub-committee, we hope you're able to quickly get an appointment at the nearest district office, to make a formal and personal request that Move To Amend be included at the hearing. We are preparing everything you need – all you have to do is show up and follow the steps.

You can contact your senator here:

The hearing date and time was just recently released and there's little time to act. It may require a little pressure from you to get an appointment in the next ten to fourteen days. You only need ten minutes from your senator's aide on Constitutional matters. If you cannot get an appointment in this time frame, ask if you can send some information via fax or email. Don't forget to get the name of the person you speak with.

Once you have made arrangements, contact us at hearing@movetoamend.org to let us know when you'll be meeting, or any other outcome. We'll send you everything you need to have a successful meeting. You can use this email address for questions as well.

Our hope is that your interaction with your senator will produce an invitation, but if it does not, we have "Plan B" on the back burner – a mass mobilization.

We feel that your constituent meeting will carry the most weight, so at this point we're depending on you to ensure that Move to Amend's voice is at the table.

In solidarity,

Ashley Sanders, Ben Manski, Daniel Lee, David Cobb, Egberto Willies, Jerome Scott, Kaitlin Sopoci-Belknap, Laura Bonham, Leesa "George" Friday, Nancy Price, Stephen Justino

We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.
