Dear Daniel,
I'm pretty disappointed in Congress right now.
We failed to reach an agreement Friday to avoid the devastating budget cuts known as the "sequester." These damaging cuts threaten our economic recovery and will hurt necessary investments in our future. Everyone agrees these cuts are a bad idea - but Congress hasn't acted to stop them.
It's not too late to reverse the sequester. Please click here to automatically sign my petition calling on Congress to replace the sequester with a balanced solution.
Even though so many Americans are going to feel the pain of these cuts, salaries for Members of Congress have been exempt. So I've decided to take a voluntary pay cut. If Congress is going to place the burden of balancing our budget on the backs of our most vulnerable, then it's only fair that I bear that burden too.
We need a balanced solution to our debt problems - one that ends unnecessary giveaways like oil and gas subsidies and requires large corporations to pay their fair share in taxes before asking working Americans to make such huge sacrifices. The sequester simply is not acceptable.
Tell Congress to get to work and fix the sequester.
