Dear DuPage Democratic Club Member,
Please note:
Our March meeting of the DuPage Democratic Club will take place at the Citizen Advocacy Center:
Date: Thursday, March 21, 2013
Time: 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  Location: Citizen Advocacy Center
182 N. York Road
Downtown Elmhurst 60126

Join CAC community lawyer, Maryam Judar, for a presentation and conversation about democracy movements in the Middle East. Ms. Judar recently participated in a U.S. Department of State Legislative Fellowship Program focused on sharing professional expertise and promoting partnerships among non-governmental organizations in the U.S. and developing democracies. Ms. Judar will share pictures and experiences visiting non-profits with a focus on democracy and human rights in Egypt and Morocco. She will also hold a discussion on the following:

a. What it was like to be in Egypt on the second anniversary of its "Arab Spring."
b. The regions struggle to build democracy
c. The tensions between politics, religion, and culture
d. Tangible lessons we can harness to strengthen democracy here in the U.S.

In light of the G.W. Bush Administration's questionable accession to power in 2000 with the interference of the U.S. Supreme Court, its subsequent abuse of civil liberties and human rights, and its illegal war in Iraq, does the U.S. still have any moral credibility or any real influence in its promotion of democracy throughout the world?

Does the Obama Administration have a better human rights record than its predecessor?

What about the Obama Administration's reliance on drones in the continuation of the so-called "war on terror?"

These are lively points for discussion which should dovetail well with Ms. Judar's presentation.

See you at the Advocacy Center on Thursday. This is a meeting you don't want to miss. Bring a friend or a relative.

Move To Amend
We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling and other related cases, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.

Fellow Democrats,

It is within our interests as citizens of the United States to overturn the odious decision that our Supreme Court rendered in the Citizens United vs. The Federal Election Commission case in January 2010. The volume of money that is spent on political campaigns has been a problem for many years but the more recent Citizens United case has worsened to the point of gravely endangering the principle of "one man / woman, one vote." Citizens United has tipped the scale in favor of the "1%" with enormous wealth. Wealthy individuals and corporations can literally buy politicians. Obscene amounts of money in politics obliterates much of what is done at the grass roots level. We can see what our opposition spends in signs and other campaign advertisement right here in DuPage County. From which sources does that money come?

We need to support Move To Amend to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot and also to urge members of the Illinois General Assembly to support it. Please take a look at movetoamend.org and go to the link to sign the petition. Please also get involved. Volunteer and urge others to overturn Citizens United.
