Dear Friend,

This week has been a whirlwind for us at the Project On Government Oversight. Here are some of our highlights during this year's Sunshine Week:

  • Angela Canterbury, our director of public policy, testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee about the unchecked secrecy of Obama's national security state.
  • We released "Best Practices for Open Government," a detailed guide for federal agencies. And thousands of you answered our call to action by forwarding the report to your members of Congress.
  • We launched an update of our Federal Contractor Misconduct Database, which tracks instances of misconduct among the 100 biggest federal contractors. The database, by the way, relies heavily on records that are available thanks to our public records law.
  • I participated in a panel discussion at The National Press Club that focused on the "Lessons of Watergate."

On Friday, we wrap it all up at the Newseum's National Freedom of Information Day conference, where I'll be on a 9:15 a.m. EDT panel that looks at how well the Freedom of Information Act is working.

Now, our challenge is to turn the excitement from this week's activities into legislative action. If you have not signed our letter to members of Congress urging them to support an open and transparent government, will you click the link below and do so now?

P.S. Even if you're not in D.C., you can follow Friday's panels at the Newseum via a webcast.
