Dear Daniel, Once again, we urgently need your help to fight for Illinois public water!
This story may sound familiar by now. Private water corporations are pushing hard for a new bill that would make it easy for them to take control of public water systems across the state and raise water rates for many Illinoisans. With the help of concerned citizens like you, we have successfully fought off this legislation for two years in a row. Let's make the third time a charm: kill the water privatization bill for good. This bill would allow private water companies to raise rates on all of their customers every time they want to take over a new water system. You could be paying higher rates just to help these private corporations expand their reach. There would also be far less oversight of these companies' activities and the rates they charge, allowing them to aggressively privatize Illinois's public water systems. It boils down to this: if this bill passes, your water rates could go up dramatically if your local community loses control over its public water system. Tell your elected officials to stand up for Illinois consumers and vote against this bill! Water privatization can be devastating to communities because corporations are concerned with profits, not with providing clean, safe water to our families at reasonable rates. Unfortunately, this water privatization bill is moving faster than ever before. In order to stop it, we need to act fast and show our elected officials that Illinois citizens want to keep their water in public hands. We need you. Speak up and tell your elected officials to vote "no" on water privatization. Protect the public water systems that provide us with clean, safe, affordable water: http://act.foodandwaterwatch.org/site/Advocacy?pagename=homepage&id=573 Thanks for taking action, Emily Carroll Midwest Region Director Food & Water Watch ecarroll(at)fwwatch(dot)org
