Dear York Democrats and friends,
Our annual St. Pat's Dinner is the main source of operating money for our organization. We don't charge dues. We don't fill all of our email announcements with appeals for money. The dinner is what gives us the funds that we need to organize to build on our victories in last year's election. So here are three ways you can help make the dinner a success:
1) Sign up for the dinner.
If you haven't already, go to http://www.yorkdemocrats.org/dinner.php, fill out your information, and hit the submit button. Or just reply to this email and tell us how many tickets you want to buy.
2) Buy an ad in the dinner program book. See http://www.yorkdemocrats.org/adbook.php for prices. Or ask area businesses who might be interested in selling to local Democrats to buy an ad.
3) Donate a prize for the bag raffle, or ask your favorite local businesses to donate one.
Our keynote speaker(s) will be announced as soon as possible. PLEASE support the dinner by at least buying a ticket or two. Without it we wouldn't be able to do what we do. And please let us know by submitting the web form (address above) or replying to this email.
* Our group canvasses continue on one day each weekend. All canvasses meet at 9:30 AM. Training and materials will be provided. This Saturday, March 2, meet at the Kleppe house, 363 N Lincoln, Villa Park. Upcoming canvasses will be as follows:
Sunday March 10: South Elmhurst. Meet at the home of Margaret Sewell at 425 Washington, Elmhurst.
Saturday March 16: South Villa Park/Oakbrook Terrace. Meet at the home of Cathy and John Sewell, 501 S Illinois, Villa Park.
Sunday March 24: Middle Elmhurst. Meeting place TBA.
Please note: Those of you who are Precinct Committeewhatevers are expected to walk your precincts at least once between now and the township elections on April 9. You don't need to wait for a group canvas to do this. Group canvasses are primarily for the purpose of covering *other* precincts that don't have their own Precinct Committeethingies.
* Municipal candidates including village boards, park commissions, school boards, and much more are also on the ballot for April 9. These races are non-partisan, so it's often difficult to know who's worth voting for. Our municipal candidate site:
http://www.yorkdemocrats.org/municipal/
provides full lists of candidates running for these offices. You can also view which candidates other YTDO members have recommended and even input your own recommendations.
* One municipal candidate who needs no introduction is long-time YTDO member and former chair Bob Wagner, who is currently running for Villa Park trustee. If you live in Villa Park, or even if you don't, join Bob tonight (March 1) for his campaign kick-off event at 221 E St. Charles, Villa Park. Refreshments provided; donations are welcome but not required.
* Join us for our regular meeting on Wednesday, March 6 at the log cabin in Four Seasons Park off 16th and Main in Lombard. Doors open by 7, business meeting to start at 7:30. In addition to other business, we will hear from more municipal candidates, and any endorsements in municipal elections that we might make as an organization will be considered and voted on at this meeting. Also, we expect to have candidate materials and door hanger bags available for you to use when walking your precinct. We will not be bagging at this meeting but you can pick up materials and bag them at home.
Or, on the same evening, join York Township Clerk candidate Joe Vosicky that same evening for a fundraising event at Angelo's Restaurant, on York Rd. just south of North Ave. in Elmhurst.
* Walk with us in the Elmhurst St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, March 9. Time and place to be announced in a later email. Then later that day, meet at the Clubhouse at Sugar Creek Golf Course for a fundraiser to support our own State Representative, Deb Conroy. Tickets include food and are $30 per person (children under 15 are free). Sponsorships are available at $100, $250, and $500 levels. RSVPs are appreciated, and can be directed to Deb@VoteDebConroy.com or 773-398-3784. Checks may be mailed to Friends of Deborah Conroy at PO Box 185, Lombard, IL 60148.
* We are always trying to recruit new members into our organization. The Democratic Party of DuPage County helps up by organizing phone banks on selected evenings. If you're interested in spending a few hours a month helping with this, please reply to this email.
